Computer Vision Applications to the Study of Sea-ice Motion in Antarctica
نویسندگان
چکیده
The motion of sea-ice in Antarctica is studied using QuikSCAT scatterometer imagery using methods from computer vision and image processing such as intensity edges and optical flow (OF). Features are computed as differential invariants based on spatial and temporal derivatives various scales. The first estimates of the motion vector field obtained through optical flow are used as the starting point for a regularization scheme that imposes constraints that bring the estimate closer to feature tracking results and observed motion. Constraints from fluid dynamics are brought in by separating the motion field into its divergence free and rotational free components with another field obtained through a convex combination of these components. The advantages of this approach are that it produces a dense motion field that can be globally processed and locally adjusted to fit data and a model. This study complements the analysis of sea ice motion by application of wavelet theory.

Optical Flow and Scale-Space Theory applied to Sea-Ice Motion Estimation in Antarctica
Sea-ice motion in Antarctica is studied applying methods from computer vision and scale-space theory to a sequence of images obtained from scatterometer data. The proposed method can obtain a dense motion vector field for any specific observation scale. Spatial and temporal scales are used to focus on relevant geophysical features and events. A preprocessing stage involving spatial and temporal...

Gesture and motion recognition are needed for a variety of applications. The use of human hand motions as a natural interface tool has motivated researchers to conduct research in the modeling, analysis and recognition of various hand movements. In particular, human-computer intelligent interaction has been a focus of research in vision-based gesture recognition. In this work, we introduce a 3-...

The Larsemann Hills range is an ice-free oasis on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of Princess Elizabeth Land, East Antarctica, which includes Bharti Island, Fisher Island, McLeod Island, Broknes Peninsula, Stornes Peninsula, and several other islands, promontories, and nunataks. The Larsemann Hills is an ice-free area of approximately 50 km2, located halfway between the Vestfold Hills a...
متن کاملRobot Motion Vision Pait I: Theory
A direct method called fixation is introduced for solving the general motion vision problem, arbitrary motion relative to an arbitrary environment. This method results in a linear constraint equation which explicitly expresses the rotational velocity in terms of the translational velocity. The combination of this constraint equation with the Brightness-Change Constraint Equation solves the gene...

The idea of Fixation introduced a direct method for general recovery of shape and motion from images without using either feature correspondence or optical flow [1,2]. There are some parameters which have important effects on the performance of fixation method. However, the theory of fixation does not say anything about the autonomous and correct choice of those parameters. This paper presents ...
